About Surina

I grew up n a small town in the Free State, so at heart I am a country girl; I prefer the freedom of open field s and open spaces. I am the youngest of two. I had a great childhood with lots of family around and visiting my grandparents each and every school holiday.
I had a passion for academics and I still do, I love to learn. I was a curious child and used to ask my dad a thousand questions. I always knew I was going to go to University, I was a bit arrogant and oblivious with regards to the how, and just assuming my parents will sort it out. I was unsure what to study up until my matric year. Due to all my questions my dad suggested that I pursue a career in journalism, I applied for a B. A. in journalism. I was accepted at the University of North West, Potchefstroom campus. I was blessed in the privilege that my parents made this possible for me.
Psychology was one of my majors and after my 1st year I changed my degree to B. A. Psychology. I believe today and then that it was God’s plan for my life. The path to becoming psychologists was full of blessings. In 2004 I registered with the HPCSA as a Clinical psychologist in private practice. My 1st practice was in Constantia Kloof, Roodepoort, Gauteng.
On a personal note: in the years between 1996 and 2004 I got engaged, married and had my first born son. Towards the end of 2010 we relocated to Cape Town and shortly thereafter my second son was born.
I am a person who enjoys listening to people’s stories, I am curious but I also want to help people. I love the diversity of every person’s different life story. I am comfortable with being a holding place for people’s emotions. I found it very rewarding when client’s lives change for the better while we journey together in counseling. I feel privilege to be trusted and to journey with people for part of their life’s journey, usually I find them in dark valleys and we try and get to the sun filled hills and mountaintops.

"I want my clients to be comfortable and to share what they are ready to share."
